Post Guardianship Services

What are Post Guardianship Services?

The Post Adoption Registry unit provides assistance to individuals who were formerly in the care of Children and Youth Services, and who now wish to obtain information from their child intervention files. The unit assists these individuals by providing a summary of their file information, and by providing assistance, on request, in searching for and reuniting with family members.

Individuals accessing these Post Guardianship Services are usually seeking to reconnect with their family of origin or previous caregivers, learn about their time in the care of Children and Youth Services, or learn about their medial history, ethnicity or eligibility for federal funding through Indian and Northern Affairs.

The Post Adoption Registry unit also assists individuals who are trying to locate family members who were formerly in the care of Children and Youth Services, and who were never adopted.

Without the assistance of the Post Adopion Registry unit, individuals would have difficulty in locating their family members. In addition, the involvement of the unit in facilitating reunification allows individuals to honestly evaluate whether they want to invite their family of origin members into their current lives.
