Children with Disabilities

The Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program provides a range of supports and services for children with disabilities and their families.

Legal authority for the FSCD program is provided by the Family Support for Children with Disabilities Act and is supported by FSCD Regulation. The Act was proclaimed on August 1, 2004.

The FSCD program:

  • Recognizes the importance of considering children’s needs as well as the needs of their family
  • Recognizes and builds on the strengths and abilities of children with disabilities
  • Recognizes families are responsible for the primary care and support of their child.
  • Recognizes families as partners in the planning and decision making process for services that will best meet their children’s needs
  • Helps families access information and coordinate services

The FSCD program is delivered by 10 Child and Family Service Authorities (CFSAs) across the province.  For CFSA contact information, click here.

Additional information on the administration of the FSCD Program is available in the FSCD Policy and Procedures Manual.
