Orientation Course for Child Care Staff

The Child Care Orientation Course is for people without formal training in early learning and child care and who are interested in pursuing a career in child care.

This free, non-credit course takes 58 hours to complete, and meets the Child Care Assistant certification training requirements under the Child Care Licensing Regulation. Developed by Alberta Human Services in partnership with early childhood professionals and educational institutions in Alberta, the course is funded by the provincial government and offered at no cost to the student.

Registration Requirements: 

  • Students must be Canadian Citizens or hold a valid Canadian Permanent Resident card.  

  • Students must be currently working in an Alberta licensed child care program (or attending high school with an interest to pursue a career in child care).

  • Students must live in Alberta. 

This course is offered through correspondence, online and in classrooms at various locations throughout Alberta.
