Ethno-cultural Communities

The Minister of Children and Youth Services was given a mandate by the Honourable Premier Ed Stelmach to improve access to existing programs for Albertans affected by family violence, and enhance family violence programming and supports for Aboriginal and immigrant families and communities. Children and Youth Services has been given $1.6 million in 2010-2011 from the Safe Communities Initiative to meet this mandate.

Across the province, nine victims' supports outreach sites that provide services to Aboriginal and immigrant families and communities impacted by family violence are being supported.

Translated written and audio family violence resources have been developed and are available to order free of charge.
