Legislation
- The Protection Against Family Violence Act (PAFVA) was amended in November 2006 to ensure an effective response to family violence and provide an immediate period of safety to victims of family violence.
- The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act supports the development and well-being of Alberta's children, youth and families while keeping them safe and protected.
- The Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act recognizes that children involved in prostitution are victims of sexual abuse and allows police and caseworkers to remove sexually exploited children from dangerous situations to ensure their safety and well-being.
- The Drug-endangered Children Act, became law November 1, 2006. It is the first legislation in Canada to protect children exposed to an adult’s involvement in serious drug activity, such as manufacturing and trafficking. This law makes it clear that these kids are victims of abuse and need our protection.
